Improving Outcomes for All Children

CPD/Leadership Development

The North Shropshire Teaching School Alliance promotes high quality teaching and leadership through the development and implementation of high quality professional development programmes for staff at all stages of their careers. The programmes have been developed using the principle of Joint Practice Development (JPD) in which professionals share experiences, make changes to their own practice and review the impact on outcomes for children. National College research demonstrates that JPD is an effective, and cost-effective way for schools to support the mutual learning of teachers, students and others through working together more closely across schools.

Our own staff development centre, St.Peter's Learning Centre in Wem, delivers a range of high quality professional development programmes using professionally trained facilitators, particularly specialising in the areas of leadership and teaching and learning.

Overall Impact of CPD/Leadership development:

  • 100% of delegates rated Learning Centre courses as Good or Better, 99% as Excellent
  • Training for teaching staff has supported an improvement in the overall quality of teaching across Alliance schools, leading to improvements in Ofsted outcomes
  • Governors and school leaders at a range of levels have received training, supporting improvement in their effectiveness in improving rates of achievement and attainment
