The North Shropshire Teaching School Alliance is offering General Primary and Early Primary School Direct non-salaried places in partnership with the Darwin Learning Partnership and the University of Chester. School-led elements of the programmes will be delivered at St.Peter's Learning Centre in Wem, Woodfield Infant School in Shrewsbury and in local Shropshire primary schools. University-led aspects will be delivered by University of Chester staff at their Shrewsbury Centre.

The benefit of Shropshire School Direct, as opposed to the conventional PGCE programme, is that the Shropshire School Direct programme is based around school embedded learning with trainees spending a minimum of two days per week in classrooms from the beginning of the programme; resulting in more confident, independent and effective teachers. The programme enables immediate application of theory into practice, resulting in a more effective teacher training experience.

Shropshire School Direct Associate Teachers are treated as members of staff in their host schools and are encouraged to play a full and active part in school life.
Trainees will complete a total of 180 days of training across the academic year. 60 days will be academic study and 120 days will be based in the classroom, observing and building up to whole class teaching as soon as possible.
