The lead school for the North Shropshire Teaching School Alliance is St. Peter’s CE Primary School, Wem.


Ian Nurser, Chief Executive Officer of Empower Trust is the overall lead and chair for the alliance.  Ian delegates specific roles and responsibilities to the Teaching School Co-ordinator to support the day to day running of the alliance.

The Teaching School Executive Board is responsible for the strategic direction of the Teaching School and sets annual Key Performance Indicators (KPIs); clear objectives for the year.  Reports annually to Department for Education, alliance headteachers, governors and parents.  (Meet termly)

Operational Groups take operational responsibility to meet the KPIs and drive the Alliance forward. The role is to formulate strategy and monitor and evaluate policy implementation.  Reports to Executive Board on delivery and impact on KPIs.  (Meet termly)


The Alliance governance structure ensures each Alliance school has an opportunity to be directly involved in the overall direction and operational management of the North Shropshire Teaching School Alliance. 


The Operational groups are organised as follows:


  1. Initial Teacher Education Operational Group drives development in ITE, including our own School Direct teacher training programme.
  2. Professional Development Operational Group drives development in CPD & Leadership Development, Research and Development, Succession Planning & Talent Management.
  3. School Improvement Operational Group drives development in School to School Support and Specialist Leaders in Education.
